이윤경고려대학교에서 철학 전공으로 학부를 졸업하고, 연세대학교에서 정치학 석사, 미국 듀크대학교에서 정치학 박사를 받았다. 2006-2016년에 뉴욕주립대-빙햄튼에서 사회학과 조교수-부교수를 역임한 후, 2016년부터 토론토 대학교 사회학과 부교수-정교수로 재직하고 있다. 2019-2022년과 2023-2024년에는 토론토 대학교 한국학 연구소 소장을 맡았고, 2022년부터 Sociology Compass의 편집위원으로 활동하고 있다. 정치사회학자로서 주요 연구 분야는 사회운동, 노동정치, 민주주의, 신자유주의와 불평등이다. 저서로 Militants or Partisans: Labor Unions and Democratic Politics in Korea and Taiwan (Stanford University Press, 2011), Between the Streets and the Assembly: Social Movements, Political Parties, and Democracy in Korea (University of Hawaii Press, 2022)이 있고, 주요 논문으로 “Cold War Undercurrents: The Extreme Right Variants in East Asian Democracies” (Politics and Society 49(3), 2021: 403-430), “Neoliberal Methods of Labor Repression: Privatized Violence and Dispossessive Litigation in Korea” (Journal of Contemporary Asia 51(1), 2021: 20-37), “Labor Movements in Neoliberal Korea: Organizing Precarious Workers and Inventing New Repertoires of Contention” (Korea Journal 61(4), 2021: 16-46) 등이 있다. 대표작
